Job description:
College counselors help students with the transition from high school to college. They also assist in the college admission process and should be familiar with numerous colleges, including their admission requirements and what they offer in terms of an individual student's chosen career path. College counselors provide help with obtaining financial aid and scholarships as well as testing and essay strategies.
Candidate Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in relevant fields
• Native English speaker
• At least 2 years experience working in college counseling
• Familiarity with the admission process in the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom, with an in-depth study and understanding of the specific information, such as university rankings, admission requirements and application procedures
• Cultural awareness and knowledge of the Chinese education system
• Those who graduated from top 20 U.S. universities will be given special consideration
In addition to the above requirements, the Shenzhen Middle School is looking for candidates with a proven track record of self-improvement, attention to detail, the ability to positive and constructive attitudes, and the desire to continue seeking professional development in a high-level international program. Only applicants from North America and the United Kingdom are currently being considered.
Work Schedule and Responsibilities:
• Conduct research on higher educational system of all countries outside of China – primarily the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada – so as to provide students, parents, and teachers with comprehensive information on university admissions.
• Collect information on students on a variety of different metrics and conduct comprehensive assessments of students to create “individual progression files” for the students.
• Help students master the university application skills of essay writing, interview preparation, and visa application.
• Guide students to complete relevant applications with the help of both Cialfo and the Common Application platforms.
• Be available to receive parents to visit and answer questions about overseas study.
• Be responsible for contacting the international university admission offices, and establish good relations with them.
• Create and lead presentations for parents and students regarding the college application process and the role college counselors play in that process.
Typical work days are Monday to Friday. 8 hours per day.
